Learning to provide local anesthesia can be a challenging experience for dental hygiene students as well as for practicing dental hygienists, who may lose confidence in their ability to provide it for patients. Lost confidence can lead to avoidance of including local anesthesia in treatment planning, which then results in fewer opportunities to practice and refine technique.
